Book Review: Desiring Women: the Partnership of Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West

“If you make me up, I’ll make you…” Virginia to Vita.
I’m currently reading ‘Desiring Women: the Partnership of Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West’. I’ve had it for a couple of months but I haven’t dipped my eyes into it yet until 2 days ago. Now I can’t seem to put it down. The book emphasizes on the subtle relationship that these two women had and how both affected each others’ work as writers. They were an inspiration for each other as lovers, friends, and writers. It takes a deep dive in both of the women’s lives and to the Woolf fans out there, it gives you a different perspective on Mrs. Woolf’s sexual identity.
Vita was the early 20th century example of androgyny. It’s amazing how I’m able to flip through every page, reading about these two women who shared such a romantic and intellectual bond. I envy them. In a way, I’m greatly influenced by this book, as if I wasn’t enough already, to find a woman who will literally fuck me in the head and in bed, a person I could share the desire and eroticism that Vita and Virginia had.
